From our Deluxe to Studio accommodations, there is an array of guestroom types to select from. Features include spacious bathrooms, some with separate bathtubs and showers; balconies and terraces, select guestrooms feature hardwood floors and vaulted ceilings with ceiling fans. Our Studio guestrooms feature terraces that can entertain up to 10 people while enjoying a vibrant Santa Monica atmosphere. Energy Star Certification 2008:
An ENERGY STAR certified facility has met strict energy performance standards set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. LEED Certification

In the summer of 2008, The Ambrose Hotel was the first hotel in the nation to receive the United States Green Building Council’s LEED-EB Silver Certification.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria.

LEED is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

To earn this prestigious certification, we were required to satisfy all of the prerequisites and a minimum number of points set forth by the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Existing Building rating system in the following areas:

Sustainable Sites
Eco friendly exterior maintenance practices have been implemented. Bicycle storage and changing facilities have been added to the property. A preferred parking program for Alternative vehicles is in place. Complimentary Los Angeles Metro transit passes have been added to our team member benefit package.

Water Efficiency
Annual water efficiency has been maximized to reduce the burden on our potable water supply and wastewater system. Low flow toilets and water saving faucet aerators have been installed. Sprinkler systems are adjusted according to season and garden areas have been planted with drought tolerant native species.

Energy & Atmosphere
Using the EPA Energy Star® Portfolio Manager tool, The Ambrose Hotel has demonstrated that we have established an excellent level of energy efficiency for the building and systems and received a rating of 99 (60 points necessary to qualify). All electronics and systems throughout the hotel are Energy Star Certified and 15% of our annual energy use is offset with offsite renewable energy credits. Efficient compact fluorescent lighting throughout.

Materials and Resources
A guest guestroom recycling program is in place. 75% of all waste is recycled or composted. A sustainable purchasing program has been implemented in an effort to reduce the impacts of pollution caused by virgin resource extraction and processing. All Ambrose team members are encouraged to reduce waste by reducing consumption of all disposable materials, composting all organic materials and fully utilizing all materials prior to their disposal.

Indoor Environmental Air Quality
The Ambrose Hotel considers our housekeeping team to be one of our best defenses against poor indoor air quality concerns. A thorough green cleaning program is in place. Eco friendly non-toxic, biodegradable cleaning products are used throughout the hotel. Our sustainable purchasing plan also includes low VOC paints, sealants and adhesives.

Innovation in Upgrades, Operations and Maintenance
The Ambrose Hotel offers complimentary shuttle services to guests using a bio-diesel powered London Taxi. An eco team has been created. Our mission is to serve our fellow teammates and guests by providing accurate, meaningful, up to date information on our company’s sustainable practices and policies. Through dedicated teamwork and effective communication, we hope to empower all Ambrose staff members to reach and maintain all of our program’s environmental goals.

Wherever possible we will strive to reduce our environmental footprint and minimize our company’s negative impact on the world around us. All Ambrose employees are asked to take pollution control, waste management, energy consumption, recycled material content and resource conservation into consideration.

Sustainable Internal Operations

Energy Conservation:

  • ALL appliances are Energy Star rated
  • Compact fluorescent lights with dimmers throughout the hotel
  • Energy efficient LED exit signs
  • Energy efficient front load washing machines
  • Energy efficient photocopiers with double sided capacity
  • Regularly scheduled in house maintenance of our HVAC system (coils checked and cleaned, compressor pressure checked, complete belt check)
  • Economizers on A/C unit which increases fresh air circulation and uses cooler outdoor air when available
  • Weather stripping to close air gaps around doors and windows
  • Preventative maintenance on ALL of our equipment to keep it efficient and effective
  • Guestrooms naturally ventilated with opening windows

 

Water Conservation:

  • Water broom & dry sweep to clean concrete and asphalt
  • Linen and towel reuse program
  • Low flow toilets (1.3gpf) and water saving faucet aerators (1.75gpf)
  • Sprinklers adjusted according to season
  • Native plants

 

Non-Toxic Housekeeping Practices:

  • Clean Environment Co. Natural Brand cleaned guestrooms, non-toxic 100% all naturally derived biodegradable cleaners made from replenishable natural resources: hand dishwashing soap, basin, tub and tile cleaner, all purpose cleaner, laundry detergent, chlorine free bleach, furniture polish and carpet shampoo
  • No aerosol spray cans or toxic cleaning chemicals used
  • Green team training meetings to introduce our staff to non-toxic cleaning procedures
  • Eco-lab’s commitment to sustainability begins with its approach to creating products, programs and services that reduce safety risks and environmental impacts, emphasizing closed systems that minimize opportunities for exposing our guests to chemicals
  • Low VOC Green Seal certified water based paints

 

Waste Reduction:

  • Hotel wide Red Bin Recycling Program - Currently diverting 75% of our waste from landfills
  • Recycling bins in all public areas
  • Compost all organic waste
    office bulletin board, dry erase white boards, staff in-house email and voicemail communication eliminating unnecessary paper printed reports
  • California Recycles, Inc cellular phone recycling program drop-off location
    100% recycled bath tissues, napkins, copy paper etc.
  • Reuse packaging for shipping
  • Employee use policy for guestroom service/ catered leftovers
  • Glass cups in ALL guestrooms, mugs for all staff members - no disposable utensils or tableware – No Styrofoam!
  • All clients are encouraged to recycle used business meeting materials and to use linen and glassware instead of disposable paper products
