Pastels in Pieces at the Getty: Opening Date
October 16 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Until the 19th century, paper in Europe was manufactured in very small sheets. This meant that in order to create large, continuous canvases, artists were required to join multiple pieces of paper together. The piecing together of pastels meant that painters could paper over mistakes, and even insert the heads of royals onto the bodies of models. This exhibit at the Getty will allow visitors to learn more about the artistic process in the late 18th century.
